The Fire, The Clean Up, The Transition and Beyond .....
The
news media
reported that a fire at Glen Echo Park on Friday May 12,
2006 damaged some supplies in a utility storage building. However, the
damage to the dance and other groups at the park is more serious than
this report would suggest. The damage was to the
building, workshop,
supplies, tools used to
restore the Bumper Car Pavilion and to provide a
focal point for numerous current on-going volunteer based projects within
the park. Documents and history for many years of dance and volunteer
programs were damaged.
Volunteers are needed to help with an immediate clean up effort to save
potentially thousands of dollars of tools and equipment from the effects
of water damage and to mount a longer term effort to rebuild the damaged
workshop.
To help, contact Stan at the park or email stan_fowler@nps.gov.
